Although just 116 Sun Liberty's were produced (almost all in 1990 and 1991) the yachts bold design and radical approach really shows how Jeanneau was determined to innovate to make sailing a far more comfortable and enjoyable past-time over two decades ago.
Daniel Andrieu, who around this time also designed the very successful racing JOD 35, penned a design that still had good performance but remarkably within a hull length of 9.98m, in collaboration with interior stylist Benoit Coquard, incorporated two heads, an enormous galley and a very impressive, also most circular main saloon, in a design that focused on luxury and comfort rather than maximising numbers of sleeping berths.
That the design did not achieve huge sales success this was probably more to do with the high production cost, including a Kevlar reinforced hull, and resultant high purchase price of £55,000 plus VAT, which even the UK importer at the time acknowledged was higher than many of the competition.
